about Skylight
...
Skylight is my passion project: a collection of photos and original paintings & illustrations that I've accumulated over time -- after hours and between places, or home in my little studio on the Upper East Side in New York City. They all seek to capture a certain sensation I felt about that place in that original moment -- whether of joy, or tristesse, or nostalgia, or longing -- and the colors and lines help to tell that story.
It is also a philosophy: a belief that all of us need a window to see the sky -- i.e."skylight"-- even when our day jobs keep us indoors, or when life takes us on expected detours. It is an inspired view, outside-in and inside-out, purely our own. A space for those who need to dream, beyond the quotidien.
about the artist
...
I believe in doodles under lamplight, in bad poetry and good french 75s, in the lacquered keys of Steinway baby grands, in late night cab rides up the FDR with both windows down, in leather sandal strolls on Crosby Street, in traveling light, in sitting in Nolita cafés on Sundays, in Central Park strolls on Tuesdays...I believe in the sense of losing oneself before nostos can occur, coming "home" to something special; whether physically through travel, or otherwise-- in art, in life...or in love.
I hope these visual "souvenirs" -- sensory imprints of color + light -- inspire you to capture the same.
#carpelaluce,
capture the light.
